that rarest of beasts-the perfect debut LP

hello all;

After reading some of these comments I dug out Black Sabbath debut LP. And I agree that was a gem-by far their best and a landmark LP.

But am I the only one to swoon over the first Roxy Music album?

For 1st debut LP's...I'd go with

Christian Death's Only Theater of Pain
David Bowie's Space Oddity
Bauhaus- In the flat field

Of course...it is a subjective topic. These are done
according to my personal tastes.

I would add to the already mentioned:-
Zappa & Mothers - Freak out (1966!!!)
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Emerson, Lake & Palmer (includes classics as "The Barbarian", "Just Take a Pebble", "Lucky Man"...+++)
Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant

YEAH, fully agree to the Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Tool ,Mike Oldfield & Metallica choices...

I haven't actually heard their debut, but it's supposed to be pretty good.

Just to catch a few stunning debut albums that haven't shown up yet...

The Fugs (first album...it'll stun you, yep it will...

)
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Planxty
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Sessions
Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame
Leo Kottke - Six and Twelve String Guitar
PJ Harvey - Dry
Clannad

Where's my memory when I need it

?

Carlo, the Grateful Dead's first album was one of their worst, despite having some of the best of their songs...and they rarely managed to catch what they did in the studio anyway

[/QUOTE]Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame

yes!!! and now that you-and the thread on jazz-fussion- reminded me:

John McLaughlin-Extrapolation(before founding Mahavishnu)
Weather Report-Weather Report
Return to Forever-Return to Forever(featuring Chick Corea)
Al Dimeola-Elegant Gypsy

All four - fussion at it's best and what was all meant about to be at the beginning - experimental fussion btween the progressive elements of jazz & rock...
