I want to express my gratitude to everyone on this forum who gave me help and advise on my X-Cans. It sounded bad when I first powered it up, but I put in new tubes, plugged in a different wall wart, and connected it to a cassette deck rather than my preamp. I'm not sure what made the difference, but I suspect the preamp was overdriving the X-Cans' inputs. I was astonished at how good some of my old tapes sounded thru the Yamaha YH-1 headphones. You guys are great!

I wasn't any help, but I'm happy for you, that you were able to find a good sounding combination! The people here are great, aren't they, all very generous and full of advice
