Hello Head-6Fires,
I just wanted to let any of you who might be interested in this soundcard know that despite a lot of negative user comments on the web, my first, initial, out-of-the-gate, not to be construed as gospel impressions are good.
The Guru of 3D review probably said it best, this thing is hardcore. I am not a gamer, and this card is not a gaming card. It does a credible job playing back DVD's, and I am just beginning to explore using it as intended, to manipulate sound files.
There have been some concerns about RFI noise creeping in to the breakout module, I have not explored that fully. There were some negative comments about the headphone jack, but honestly I don't think it sounds half bad driving the HD600's. And the sound played over my little Monsoon 5.1 rig is decent. The card itself sounds very good.s
I bought this card for one reason--hobbyist sound manipulation. I will be using it for vinyl to CD transfers, MD to CD burning of field recordings made with a Sony MZ-R70, and perhaps may try some rudimentary DVD soundtracks eventually (for home movies that I am editing). My kid and his buddies want to hook up a mic and do some basic recording. But as I stated, I wanted something to manipulate sound files for burning to CD and the Breakout module has all the Inputs I should ever need for that and no crawling under the desk!
Once I have an opportunity to really use its capability, I will return with further info.
Thanks to lini for the vote of confidence.
Cheers, gb
