I have come across a term on head-fi that I don't fully know the meaning of. Scaling. When it is used such as "HD580's scale nicely", what does it mean?
What I understand it as is, the performance of the headphones 'scale' up nicely according to the grade of equipment (eg. from mid-fi sources to hi-fi sources). Hence the performance improves with the equipment used.
It simply means that as you upgrade your source components and amps etc the headphones will be able to "scale" up with the new equipment, it is of a quality that it is perfectly at home alongside the greater and better equipment for instance.
It is used in certain instances at least, with regards the hd line as they are relatively cheap when compared with other headphones at any rate and thus some may not think they are in keeping with far more expensive audio equipment.
