Pulled the trigger on a pair of Shure E500's from the $280.00 Ebay guy.

I resisted the last two times but on the third time around, I just couldn't help myself. Read nothing but rave reviews from most all review sites, except here, where the reviews have been somewhat mixed.

My logic and excuse for purchase: If I don't like them, I can always sell them for $260 so I'm just paying 20 bucks to check them out.

This "logic" and "excuse" has worked each time on my ever-increasing collection of all things headphone.

Once again, "Damn you, Head-Fi!"

Ciao,

Ciao,

Sounds like what I tell myself when I'm trying to justify an audio purchase.

Seriously though, I love my E500's with only thoughts of customs tempting me away.

I suggest trying different variations of tips, many have settled on the newer black foam tips but I personally wasn't all that struck on those. I ended up using an Etymotic tri-flange which basically is the same as the Shure tri-flange but has no stock on it.

I tend to be negative about the E500s (I got same deal BTW), but I do have to say for $280, they do bass and midrange extremely well. I just can't seem to get over the lack of high frequencies.

However, if you like the HD650 sound, these may be up close to the UE10s which are priced in the stratosphere when you consider $280. And you can actually sell these if you don't like them.

So it was YOU who got the last e500... I had my eye on those for awhile, just couldn't decide between them and the much cheaper E4, and now they're all gone.

I shoulda known some Head-Fier would snatch them up. Hope you enjoy it!

'twasn't I.

There was five left when I bought mine. So they're all gone now?

The last time he had his lot of E500's, I decided to wait just one more day to pull the trigger and the next day when I went to make that purchase, they were all gone.

This time I didn't wait.

They're back! I just took the plunge and got myself a pair of e500s. As of now, there are 19 left.

Let's hope we both enjoy our new toys once they arrive.

Cheers.

Thanks for the heads-up Judge Crandall. I pulled the trigger on a pair last night after reading your post.

Now if my Xin Reference would only ship before the end of the year...

My pair arrived today.

Took 'em for a quick spin around the block.

What's there not to like about these amazing IEM's?

The bass is robust, yest solid; the mids seem very neutral, and the high frequencies are there in spades; just not over-hyped.

These are the first IEM's I've ever heard that really reminded me of a pair of full-sized cans. So much so that just for fun I put my 701's, which just happened to be hanging next to my listening chair, over my ears while the Shure's were playing and I could have easily fooled myself into believing I was actually listening to one of my regular headphones.

In doing a somewhat quick comparison to the UE SF5Pros, I find the E500's to be much more balanced across the entire sound spectrum. While both are great sounding IEM's, the E500's seem designed for the audio connoisseur, whereas the 5Pros target audience seems to be those who are just a bit rough around the edges.

I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with the E500's to get a better feel and understanding of their sound signature.

Wow, that was quick. Did you get any communication from the seller, like a shipping notice or something? Aside from the paypal emails, I haven't heard anything.

Yeah, it was quick. I had absolutly no communication with the seller at all. As a matter of fact, I thought that was rather odd so I looked to see when I made the purchase (past weekend) and was going to shoot him an email asking if he had a chance to process my order, but seeing almost 700 very satisfied customers, I figured I'd give him another day or so. And lo and behold, they show up.

You should be getting yours by tomorrow. You're gonna love it. The E500's awesome! Please post your impressions when you get them.

Hi,

Its funny, I got in on the same batch of E500s but I am out of town and won't be able to listen to them for a while. I'm also currently using the UE 5 Pros and am a bit worried about the E500s having a smaller soundstage and the rolled off highs I keep hearing about. I do like the UE Super Fi pro's but sometimes, especially at high volumes the highs can be a little-bit harsh. But the EQ takes care of that and I find the SFPros to be great and balanced overall (I like the slightly bassy sound) for my taste.

What is your opinion on these qualities of the E500s as compared to the Super Fis? Thanks in advance and I am happy to hear you're enjoying your earphones.
