Has anyone used nylon computer wire sleeving on custom wires before?
Does it compare?

I don't think there's a terrible amount of variation in expandable nylon sleeving in terms of physical characteristics or ease of use - there are lots of alternatives to Techflex but most of them are only available from industrial outlets and not in the small quantities that Techflex is sold in.

I've seen many nylon cable sleeves in the DIY gallery, check out the last 30 pages or so on the sticky. Shoelaces are a viable alternative for reasonable lengths...these come in some um, interesting patterns.
