I'm curious what the DIY-ers here think of tantalum resistors, such as the Shinkoh or Audionote sold by partsconnexion. Many people seem to think they are warm and musical but just as detailed as metal film, without the metallic glare; any similar or different experiences here with headphone gear?

Unfortunately it's difficult to participate in modern society and NOT harm the rain forests...even if you don't buy tantalum products, if you drive a car, buy anything made with wood or rubber (even if it's not from the rain forests, you're creating a market for those things), etc., etc.

I've donated to the World Wildlife Fund, at least. I've also stopped using teak for all my campfires.

Anyway, just assume I'm a rain forest murdering a-hole and humor me... What do you guys think of tantalum resistors?

i have used them as plate loads on an amp i worked on. depending on your opinions this is a critical location. not as important as a resistor DIRECTLY in the signal path, but not as trivial as a resistor in the power supply or a cathode resistor bypassed with an ugly black-gate cap.

they are sexxey as hell.

im not sure if they are worth using in every spot on the amp, but they are nice to use in very key locations. if they are directly in the signal path, no doubt!
