Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

yeah i read somewhere in youtube comment section that some people prefer the hd 58x jubilee rather the hd 6xx? But why though ? I thought the bigger numbers means the its the better headphones LOL. Is the hd 58x uses some kind of new driver than the hd 6xx ? In my country the hd 58x is being sold around the same price of the hf 580

Basically, the HD58X has less roll off in the bass compared to the 6XX and slightly smoother treble. It does feature a new driver that's easier to drive and it's cheaper. There are still people that prefer the 6XX over the 58X but I think if you're starting out the 58X would be a better choice because it's a similar experience but less dependent on the audio chain than the 6XX. The HD58X's advantages over the HF 580 is that it's lighter, has a replaceable cable, and is easier to drive from a portable source like a phone. Other things to consider would be the cost of the pads and mods for the HF 580 if you decide to go that route. The only common mod that I have seen on the HD58X is removing the foam behind the driver which is free and not strictly necessary. But sound-wise, I doubt you could go wrong with either headphone.

The Takstar hf580 was a bit 'hollow' in comparison with the T60 Fostex. Details was less accurate. But now I did close the backside a bit with carbon foil and it's so much better now. Amazing!

And I do use hybrid earpads. No sharp fatique sibling anymore. Deep fast bass also.

It's so easy to tune this planar to your own needs. Love them!

Why can't I upload photos here?
It's a bit weird and took me awhile to figure out.

1. Click Upload a File from the lower right buttons on the bottom bar -- Ignore the picture icon on the toolbar. I'm not sure how that thing works
2. Select your image from your computer.

3. It does not automatically place the image. It just "uploads" it/them and you then "Insert" it based on where your prompt is ( that's the blinking bar thing when you type, hit the return key for a new line else it will insert the image to the right of the text). Click Insert as Full Image or thumbnail.

I have opened these up about 30 times, and I'm still finding new sound in them. I've never had so much fun "tuning" a pair of headphones.

Recently I've been experimenting with one cotton ball behind each driver and then moving it around. You get very different tones based on where the cotton/empty area is. Upper 2/3 cotton - bright treble with nice bass. Lower 2/3 - dark tones with heavy bass. Cotton in the middle - happy medium.

Things that have NOT worked in the back of the cans: Felt - made it sound sloppy. Wood disc - removed most of the bass and made it sound hollow.

I did not like at the beginning of the felt. But it seemed to work with my latest modifications. Worked better than medium density 3mm foam. I would like to get my hands on super light materials suck as aerogel. It's very expensive material.

yes I know the need to be oval... I will fit them in the ring to add them to the enclosure.... otherwise double sides tape will do the trick.... I did also give it a try with some 'empty' HM5's. I did remove the white foam from the earpads and did leave the blue foam inside. Now it's much more soft and sounding better... it's so easy :)

I have many ear pads and mostly round ones. They dont really fit to it... Need to be smaller than the oval so you can squish them into place. Hmm. I can do measurement of my sheepskins :D they are so nice.

Brainwavz round XL sheepskins measure very well. Comfort is very good and they also sound suprisely balanced. But they don't fit :frowning2: they pop out if remove headphones from ur ears. You get also more volume to compared to China hybrids. Treble is lowered a bit and low midrange slightly rised. Probably I order these: https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/prod...arpads-sheep-skin?_pos=4&_sid=a8aceeaa3&_ss=r

China hybrids are better with micro details but hotter treble may make ur hearing dizzy. Beware I have modded HF580 so China hybrids may sound dry and bass heavy if not modded.

This takstar planar is really interesting, well Christmas is right around the corner and I'm thinking of getting some new (or used), haven't really treated myself at all the past year and these have me interested. The only problem is they're open, tho I was thinking of making custom wood cups (closed). I really want a closed planar woodie and I don't mind gettin my hands real dirty.
