Hey guys just had a few questions about your source gear. I was wondering how many of you use apple's mp3 players as your main source and if you do, do you upgrade it with portable amps and cases? Also would be great if you can specify which apple product you use.

Use a 64 gig 3rd gen ipod touch. No amps or cases.  Been through a 1st gen 8 gig touch (now donated to neice), 2nd gen 32gig touch (now donated to my dad who uses it for audiobooks).  If iriver had released an updated iriver 120 with better display, better ui, better battery life, better storage then I would have bought that in a heartbeat.  As it was they didn't so I couldn't.  God help me I have been toying with the idea of a classic to dump all my audiobooks/comedys/spoken word on there as I am fed up of choosing!

Cheers.

Main source - no (that's the PC > Audio-gd NFB-12 > Little Dot MK IV)

Main portable source - yes

I have both an iPhone4 and an iPod Touch G4.  I use the iPod with a LOD and Arrow HE4G.  The iPhone is mainly non-amped (ultra-portable) with me SE535 LEs.

Both have idevices have cases - a Philips hard shell slide-in for the iPod and a casemate dual case (soft inner, hard outer) for the iPhone.

160gb iPod classic 7G with a fiio L3 LOD and a Fiio E11 amp. Installed rockbox on it, and its a brilliant source.
I also use a switcheasy black case.

Ipod Video 5g 30GB (Rockboxed) > L9 LOD > Fiio E7 > Ultrasone HFi-780

I enjoy this very much, currently looking for a case for the ipod though.

iPhone 4 32 GB
iPod X (Probably Gen 5, not quite sure)
CLAS
iBasso D12
ALO Audio Algorythm Solo interconnect cables

Other cables:
SAEC mini to mini

I usually carry my rig in a Volk Gen 2 Mini Dump Pouch. The extra cables I carry in a Shure IEM case.

Was using iPod touch Nano 3g then iPod touch 1g(First Batch) then I switch to iPod touch 4g and recently to Sony Walkman.

So it has been my main gear for over 5 years. But then, both my iPod touch severely have battery problem, the problem of the battery dying if I were to play game, normal battery if I were to play only music. So it became a pure music player from an entertainment device. And the battery replacement are very expensive, so I rather spend a more to get a brand new iPod touch and Sony Walkman respectively.

I use a Sandisk Clip+. I would not buy an mp3 player without a card slot. The Clip+ sounds great. A 2GB Clip+ is $30. Add a $22  32GB microSDHC card, and you get a great $52  34GB player.

I'm actually in the process to of adding a Cowon D3 to my source list as well, so that will be nice when I can get ahold of it!

I have a classic 160GB, and a load of different players. But, the classic is one of my favorite players. And, I use it amped & unamped - depending on what headphones I feel like using that day.

PS: I forgot to mention that I use my FiiO L3 with my classic when I use my amps. :D
