1000+ Head-Fier
Well, I'd like to protect my CD player and amp (Jolida JD102B speaker amp, the headphone setup no longer exists. I love speakers.) I found a Tripp Lite Isobar (IB-4) surge suppressor and noise filter in the house, and discovered when I looked it up on the net that it's actually a pretty decent surge suppressor. I also noticed it has the added bonus of providing line noise filtering.
So, I'm trying to tell whether it affects sound quality or not. I thought it might have made the sound slightly more strident and less smooth, and less precise, but I also thought that might be in my head since I obviously can't do an instant A/B comparison. Any thoughts?
Also, it has four outlets (two pairs, isolated from each other), with two levels of noise protection. One pair protects about 50dB, the other (isolated) pair protects about 75dB. If it does not negatively affect sound quality to use this device, how might I best arrange my components? For example, should the CD player be plugged into the lower or higher protection outlets? The amp? Should the CD player and amp be isolated from each other (one in each pair of outlets)? If so, would it better to have CD player -> high protection and amp -> low, or vice versa?
Thanks for any advice!
Oh, also if my amp has been on for a few minutes, and I turn it off, the woofer cone moves. A lot. When I turn the amp back on within a few seconds (actually more like within 20-30 seconds), it creates a ringing sound and the drivers move. A lot. As much as if not more than when I turn the amp off. Is this bad? If so I'll take it into the dealer I bought it from (used) and ask them to look at it. Sorry about the long post.
