Using v3 of the Burson Audio discrete opamp in the Lycan with the leg extensions.

I am still using the plunky and powerful Lycan with the V 5 chipset and it sounds nice and detailed yet always sounds musical. The amp seems to easily power all of my headphones. This amp is extremely versatile, because one can roll out chips to alter the sound signature. This amp is ideal for those taking a nice holiday, its small and portable, sounds great and the sound can be easily changed. The Lycan offers a lot of value the money. :)

Just had a buddy of mine over and audition the V5 V4 and the stock op amp JRC45800 using music from him ipod video 120GB with Audio Technica ATH-M50

the V4 and V5 to his ears were a vast improvement over the JRC45800 in everyway to him and he found the V5 more involving but ultimately prefered the bass of the V4 more. Lots of fun swapping op amps and hearing the sound sig change.

Has anyone compared it with other head amps?

I have it running off a Pulse Infinity. I also have the Liquid Carbon running balanced off the Infinity. The LC now has about 95 hours of break in. At this stage I prefer the Lycan fully SE over the fully balanced LC setup. The Lycan has a very sensitive input so matches better with as variable output source like the Infinity has.

Setting the Infinity at -15 dB the Lycan volume is at 9:30 while the LC is at 2:00 with a 3X gain. The Lycan seems to have significantly more output than the LC in balanced setup. I would not have guess that.

This setup also allows me to compare it directly compare it with the Infinity's internal amp. It is much more of a toss up here.

Just a brief update. I finished the CA Liquid Carbon 150 hour break in using my HE6. The LC finally came into its own with the Infinity set at 0.0 dB and the gain at 3X running fully balanced in and out.

I decided to compare the Lycan to it. Lowering the Infinity to -6.0 dB the Lycan and the HE6 are mating well. The Lycan Volume is set at 9:30-10:00. This is one amazing little amp :)

This looks very interesting! Ive been wanting a Burson Soloist SL for a while but the price always held me back.. You guys think the lycan would have the same sound signature as i read ( warm sounding , wide soundstage, rich sound etc) ?

And whats the difference between 2x single ss opamp and 1x dual ss opamp ?

Maybe here you can find some answers.

The Lycan is fantastic! It has become my number one amplifier now. I beleive you will get the same quality from the Lycan as the Soloist SL. Lycan has plenty of power and just gives you excellent sound quality. You can't go wrong for just $249, and you can roll opamps with ease, which is a very cool feature. If it were built into an enclosure with an internal power supply, I'm sure it would go for double the price. :)

Has anyone compared it with other head amps? Anyone paired it with the Audeze LCD2 or he MrSpeaker MadDog?

I have been extensively comparing the Supreme Sound Lycan (opamp V5 verson) with the Burson Conductor Virtuoso (ESS Technology SABRE32 ESS9018S version). I will soon publish a full review but in my initial A/B tests, the Lycan delivers performance that approaches the Conductor Virtuoso's level. As others have stated in the thread, the V5 opamp has clarity throughout the frequency range and a smooth high range. In listing to piano recordings such as Valentina Lisitsa's newly released Scriabin Nuances, Waltz in F Minor, Op.1, the Lycan impressively articulates the high frequency details ("sparkle") whereas the Conductor Virtuoso places more emphasis on the low frequency details ("weight"). Although I do not own the Audeze LCD-2 headphones, I have tested the Lycan with my Sennheiser HD-650+ALO SXC awg18 headphones and I suspect it will be excellent match to headphones with the Audeze signature.

What Burson achieved in creating an American-made amplifier/pre-amp at $249 is actually pretty impressive-- especially, if you consider Burson's outstanding customer support and the ability to fine tune the sound to your preferences with opamps.

Well, I guess I'm on my way to enter the Lycan universe! It primarily caught my attention after recently reading this X-mas holiday gift recommendation..

I was then a few days later more or less lucky to "win" a demo set with the V-5 opamp for an extremely affordable price, below half price, and with express shipping to the US, so I very much look forward to very soon experience the Lycan, primarily using my Geek Pulse as a source and a couple of decent entry level headphones HD600/HE400s + my Etymotic 4ER-S IEM's. Maybe also trying the Lycan out as a preamp into a couple of amplifier/speaker setups.  I also have a bunch of various opamps that I eventually would like to test the Lycan out with.

I had not seen Innerfidelity's Holiday Guide until now. Aside from Bob Katz's debatable comments on the volume control, his thoughts about the Lycan's sound are consistent with my observations. And although the Lycan's price at $249 makes it a great stocking stuffer, its really a serious longterm investment into having an amplifier/pre-amplifer with unadulterated, transparent, and accurate sound. With the Sennheiser HD-600 and Etymōtic ER•4S you will have a even-keeled setup that will give you a lens right into the music. That should be a fine setup and I think you'll enjoy it.
