So, I got these Superlux HD-562 headphones a few weeks ago and loved everything about them (low price, build, sound)....except the fit. They clamp HARD. Really hard.
I was going to send them back, as they were just too painful to wear for any length of time.
BUT then, I had a realization. The clamping force is a a result of those two plastic headbands pulling towards each other. What if I just got rid of one of the headbands? Wouldn't that reduce the clamping force by half?
So....I took out my hacksaw and sawed off the headband with no wires running through it. And it was success! The clamping force is greatly reduced...the headphones are quite comfortable now...and there's still enough clamping to provide good isolation.
I plan to sand down the nubs to make the mod look a little better...but right now I'm just so psyched that it worked, and I have great-sounding, comfortable and VERY inexpensive portable headphones. Here's how they look now:
