I ordered some stuff from Take Five Audio in Fergus, ON Canada, shipped by Expedited USA on 3-23-2005. Shipping to California, USA.

Now more than two weeks later, it has still yet to arrive. Is this the normal time for Expedited delivery? I'd hate to see how long it would take for lesser shipping methods.

If this is the norm, I don't think I'll be ordering anything from Canada anytime soon.

I have a shipment from Taiwan that shipped out early this week. Now if that shipment arrives before Take Five's now that will be pathetic.

That is kind of funny because it seems like Canadian customs (or pretty much any other country's customs) takes their own sweet time dealing with clearing stuff that goes via mail, but stuff coming into the US zips right through. Parcels that take a week or ten days to get to their address in Canada take just a few days to get from Canada to me. And I don't recall ever paying any duty on anything that I've received from outside of the US, but I hear horror stories from my European friends about ludicrous duties, taxes and fees that they end up paying.

Sorry to kind of go off on a tangent (with apologies to you know who) there.

For the record, a few years ago I had to mail some documents from Toronto to Vancouver for my graduate school application. It should've taken about 5 days.

It took two and a half weeks.

I think it's probably just par for course with Canada Post.

You never know how long its going to take. It doesn't matter if its USA to Canada or Canada to USA. I do quite a bit of business across the border. On items I ship to the USA with tracking it usually takes 1 to 2 days to go from my house to US Customs. From there it can take up to a week to get processed. You never know. I've had items delivered to California in four days while items take two weeks to get to New York. Same thing going the other way. Except that Canada customs is even slower. Items shipped from Florida to Ottawa, here in three days. Items shipped from Buffalo 10days. I've given up trying to figure it out.

I don't know, I love Canada post. It took me 4 days to get my MS2's from Canada. I live in the UK. That is amazing service.

and you live close to the border, use a service like thelettercarrier.com. The cool thing is its not a PO box, and they will sign for your packages.

I track delivery online, and then bring the packages over the border myself. No long delays, and at $2usd charge per package it beats having to pay the UPS guy $20 in "brokerage fees".

I ordered some belden cable a couple years ago and it took 5 days to get to me using the expedited shipping! They are in Mount Forest, ON Canada, which is only about 4 1/2 hours away from me!! (North of Detroit, MI, USA)

Anybody who know why your customs is so slow? In Europe this had been totally unacceptable.

How are you doing export business between Canada and US?

Besides within EU we have no customs. It's funny though that Norway is a foreign country, our neibours. They hasn't joined EU of unknown (to me) reasons.

Canada post will get the package to the border and to customs in a quick time (probably next day) but then it has to clear customs, and then gets dealt with by the US partner to Canadapost, which i think is USPS. So if it clears customs right away, then it should take about 4 days, any additional time is just spent in a customs house.

Canada post is great for me, anything that I ship internally gets there exactly on time, and in great shape, and when I ship cross-border, it takes a while.
