Being that these are right in the same price range ($100-150), which would be a better choice to use with a pcdp? I'll be using Grados, Sportapros, and maybe some of the new Audiotechnica cans if I can get my hands on a pair out of a Sony D-EJ955 pcdp.

Which of these two amps has a better sound? I know the Headsave Transit is basically a META42, one step up from the Meta MINT (aka Headsave MINT), which is the intro Meta that alot of people are building nowadays.

The battery life will be much better on the S/M V6, and I have heard good things about the sound after breaking in. But would the Headsave sound alot better, being that it IS a Meta42? I've just heard that the Meta stuff sounds really really impressive. But how much moreso (if any) than the V6?

thanks!

Lou, what is the size difference, or size comparison like between the two? I don't know, I might just replace my supermini after just under a month of usage

Headsave Transit Specs
-META 42 PCB
-Nichicon 470uF 35V PS caps
-1% metal film resitors
-OPA 2132PA or AD 8620 OP AMP(socketed)
-WIMA 6.8uF reservoir caps
-Elantec 2001 buffers (3) or (5)(socketed) -Biased to class "A"
-Panasonic EVJ 50K potentiometer
-Machined aluminium knob
-Switchcraft mini jacks
-High quality mini toggle switch
-Blue LED
-9V battery power
-Black serpac H67 9V case (4.94X2.75X1.28")
1) The amp uses 1 -9v battery but I can add the capability of a second 9v
2) The size of the Serpac case is 4.94" x 2.75" x 1.28"
3) In my opinion the only upgrade would be to add the Blue Velvet volume control. This would bring the total price with the AD 8620, stacked buffers, 2 9v battery power and Alps Blue Velvet volume control. I got all the upgrades

How's the battery life with the two 9 volt and one 9 volt versions? I don't want to be changing out batteries or sticking a rechargeable in the charger all the time. The supermini's battery life is just sick! But if the battery life isn't bad on the Transit, then i think I'm going to go that route, because this will mainly be for beside listening, or next to the laptop on the coffee table, or (at worst), taking it in my satchel/briefcase to work... I was debating going for the Headsave MINT, but the black serpac case looks so nice and will be more durable in the long run, I think.. I'm still debating one or two 9 volts...

So it trounces the super mini, huh?

HI MY 2 9 volt batt are wired in parallel. meaning that both the batt are wired the same way . So its like having a 9 volt batt with another 9 volt batt backing up the first 9 volt batt. This add more current for my 32 ohm sr 225. This amp was made for my sr 225. I only change the batt once including a good burnin. Its sounds awesome like a good meta42 should. If you heard this amp you would not even condider the super mini amp. The transit it years beyound the s/m amp and I will never turn back.

I have a Transit, basically they stock one described on the headsave site using 8620 op amps and stacked buffers. It replaced a Headroom Airhead in my portable rig. Currently it's driving Aless. MS-1s most of the time. I've also used it with Ety 4s and its a good match with those as well.

I've never heard a super mini but I can say the Transit smokes the Airhead for about the same money. As for battery life, I use 160 mh 9V rechargables and I find that I'll get 25 - 30 hours out of a charge. I've never really measured this but I get about 10 hours out of my TDK mojo and I'll usually change the batteries in it about 3 times before having to replace the transit battery. I just ordered some 220 mh 9v from Thompson Batteries so I'm expecting to increase the time between swaps to 40 hours or so. It takes all of 30 seconds to change the battery and that includes taking it out of my portable bag and putting it back.

I currently have a supermini v6 and after reading your review, took your advice and ordered a maxed out Headsave Transit. I can't wait to hear what is sounds like. I guess I'll be selling my s/m amp soon.
