Well, I'm wondering which of these I should get to use with my D-EJ955. The Super Mini V6 is about $110, the CMoy's go for around $40-45 used, and the Meta42 can be had (a basic one) for around $100.

So which should I go for? I'll be using Sportapros, MX400's and Grado's, possibly Sony V6's as well... My musical styles are alot of rock (EMO rock, hard rock, metal), jazz, and pop. No classical..

Any advice on what I should go for? I'd like to keep it cheaper, but if one of these types of amps is waaaay ahead of the rest of the pack, I don't mind ponying up the money..

cmoy - cheapest and easiest to build yourself. decent sound

supermini - ridiculous small, crossfeed, long battery life. good sound.

meta - super tweakable, little harder to build. possibly bomb sound

mint - hardest to build. mad cool factor. good sound.

and the "mint" is "Meta Is Now Tiny", right? Basically a stripped Meta42 due to size constraints?

I'm guessing any of these choices will be a good deal better than the headphone out of the new Sony 925/955/1000/2000 pcdp's?

I could probably just go with a good basic cmoy and then start saving for a maxed out Meta, or at least some decent grado's (since I only have my eyes on them now, and don't actually own a pair)....

It may be a 'stripped' meta, but I think i'll sound better than a mini.

I think you'd be better off putting your money towards a Mint, even if it means waiting a little longer.

im in a similar situation to yours.

i couldnt justify building a meta as if i did i would have to build a good one with 4x stacked buffers and all that, which seemed pointless because it wouldnt be that much more expensive to wait a few months and then build a ppa.

i didnt want a mint because i didnt really need portability (i needed battery power but i didnt need small size as it would normally be in a backpack), so i didnt want to sacrifice sound for portabilty compared to a meta.

i decided that if i built a cmoy it may as well be an ra1 clone as they are supposed to work well with grado's

So now im stuck deciding whether to wait and build an expensive ppa when the boards are available and know what components to use, or whether to build an ra'1 now. im leaning towards building the ra1 as i could build 2 for not much more than the price of one and sell one to an aussie headfier, and i dont think its worth building an expensive amp when im only using ms'1's...

i dont know how much of this is relevant to you, and i dont really have any more of an idea than you do... but it may help. my recommendation is an ra1 clone, there arent enough of them around head-fi

Well, I can get a CMoy for like $40, which would be much better than my headphone out. Or I could have a Fiddler-built MINT for about $95 shipped. I just sold my SRF-S84, so I've got $50 in my paypal account. I'm looking at the CMoy for basically nothing out of pocket, or a MINT for about $50 out of pocket.....


I'm only using Sportapros right now, but will probably be getting some Grado SR80's in the future. So the CMoy would be just fine for me, but I've heard that the MINT/Meta's sound ALOT better by comparison..
