Hi,

New to this forum. I just bought a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 EB's. However, I've noticed that a good amount of my MP3 collection is encoded at 160kbps. How big of a difference in sound quality will I notice @ 160kbps vs. 320kbps? These IEMs will be used with my Ipod Nano with no other amp. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi, I'm using a pair of Super.fi 5 Eb with my Nano as well.

Personally I don't think you'd be able to hear a big difference, at least I can't really hear that much of a difference myself, I'd probably need two versions of the same song in different qualities to be able to hear a difference.

The Nano isn't that great of a source and the EBs are mostly just lots of fun with a lot of bass, but not too much detail, so overall I wouldn't worry about it

For 160kbps vs. 320kbps, even with a cheap ear phone, you should hear the difference.

Just don't expect that difference to be night and day.

Also depends on your ears of course

Best way to test out is to rip/download a track in lossless format, convert to both 320kbps and 160kbps mp3 format, and do an ABX test (blind test) to see if you are able to tell the difference. One such player that takes care of them all is foobar.

That sounds like the best idea! I'll try that out. Thanks!
