Now that school is out and the weather is warm, I thought it'd be fun to start a thread about summer vacations.

I got back from my "summer" vacation about 2:30am this morning. I went early, since there was a "planetary alignment" of visitng friends and family, as well as the calm before the storm at work. We've got some big trials coming up, and I can't take time off again until the fall.

For my vacation, I left last Friday morning and drove from LA to Phoenix. A good friend's band played a show that night and it was a great time. Lots of drink and fun and a very late night. Hung around Phoenix until Sunday seeing friends and in-laws, and then headed south to Yuma. My father travels back and forth to work on our apartments there, so I met up with him. Went to Mexico for a bit, helped install a sprinkler system, did some painting and a little carpentry, ate out around town, and relaxed at the pool, too. There was work, but there are no panicked deadlines like at the office. You can slouch around in work clothes with a beer and don't have to worry about the last mail run. It was nice.

I took today off, too, to catch up around the house and relax. Back to the grind tomorrow, but I feel much better.

Anyhow, if you have plans this summer, post them here. I'd like to know what everyone else is doing.

I have a Calculus preview course lined up, a local missions trip with Urban Promise, and a missions trip to Mexico. Otherwise, it's the beach and/or the park with friends, with the occasional jaunt to the mall.

Life is too short to be spent shopping.

Taking photography to get my art credits out of the way, also taking an SAT prep class later in the summer. Other than that, I'll hopefully be able to start paddling for Waikiki Surf Club again for Regatta season, cruising at the beach, going movies, and riding my sector nine down some of the nearby hills'll probably make up my summer. Flying solo this year, so no annoying runs to the mall or cheesy chick flicks for me

Cooler weather? Where are you coming from?

I'm moving to Houston, TX for my summer vacation. I took a job right before graduation and now am looking forward to 1500 miles cramped in a U-Haul

It'll be worth it when I get settled though, I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life.

Edit: Wow, I just realized that was six years ago, I feel so old

. Oh, and I'm flying to SF tonight so, I guess I can include that in my summer plans list too.

My summer vacation is already spent two ways: we went to our Vacation condo in Kauai in January, for two weeks - first time in eighteen years we went alone, and first time we went for two weeks - it was nice.

And right away soon, for this summer's entertainment, I get to have a new roof installed - $17,000, and then new siding installed - $35,000, then Paint the whole outside of the house - $????, then maybe some decking work, if I haven't exceeded our ability to pay for the improvements by that point.

Oh, well, my headphones/music can keep me soothed...beans and rice doesn't sound too bad, if it comes with some music.

I will watch the new posts and vicariously enjoy your vacations...

Well we camp a couple times every year and make the weekend trips to Tahoe to visit some of my family on the north and west shores but as for a real vacation I'm taking my wife down to So Cal in August. Going to Disneyland, HB, maybe down the SD... nothing too big just getting away.

We are looking at doing a houseboat on lake Powell next summer has anyone ever been? Looking for any advice or recommendations.

My wife and two friends decided to surprise us with a trip for a weekend (it happened to be my birthday). We drive about 4 hours north to Deland, FL. I am clueless (nothing new there). Finally, we arrive at a boating facility. I figure, we are going out on a small boat for a few hours. I am then taken to this 50' (I think) houseboat. I turn to my wife and say, "Are you nuts, what do I know about driving a houseboat." I am figuring this to be the most stressful weekend of my life. Fortunately, Captain Scott (his nickname during the weekend), one of the other two husbands says he can do it. I say fine. He drove the thing the entire weekend and beside the occasional gator scare, we had a great time. This was on the St. Johns River, I believe.

Good times! I went on one when I was about 12 for a week or so and it was a blast! Now that I'm older I really want to see Powell so we're talking about a big family thing... I'm told they are fairly easy to drive..?
