Between my collection of cd's and vinyl I want to migrate to a digital player and would like advice on a good player that supports flac 16bit 44100Hz for my cd rips and flac 24bit 96000Hz for my vinyl rips. I already had a suggestion from a friend about getting the HM-601 but I have come to rely on the knowledgeable folks on this site can anyone help me please.

Depends on how much you want to spend, there's the new Fiio unit coming out which will be at the budget end, or the HM601 or 901 units or the A&K 100 or 120 amongst others. I bought the AK120 myself because I wanted an aesthetically pleasing nit as well as good sound. Sme issues with it at present in terms of firmware, but are being dealt with by iRivet well, overall good quality.

The Sandisk Sansa Clip Zip 4GB ($35-$40) with the Rockbox firmware upgrade might give you what you want.
It's only $15 to add 16GBs of SDHC memory.

Rockbox does not allow any of the Clip players to output in 24 bit, it downsamples to 16 bit and plays it. You can not get more with software than what the hardware provides...

The Colorfly C3 will give you 16/44 FLAC's and 24/96 Wav's with or without Cue files. The UI leaves a lot to be desired but the sound is stellar.

Now the C4 Pro will give you what ever you need but at a price.

I would give my left nut for the C4 Pro but a $700 price tag I can't do that. Now it's a fight between the C3 and the HM-601 and the specs are close. 
The HM-601 specs:
D/A Chip: TDA1543
Frequency Response: 20-20K Hz
S/N: 92 DB
 
The C3 specs:
Chips: DAC: TI PCM1770
Audio Performance: Signal-noise ratio the SNR> 97db
Frequency Range: 22Hz-20Khz ± 0.5dbs

You also might just want to wait for the FiiO X3 it's supposed to hit the shores in North America in July sometime, I think its around $200 and is getting a great review in the threads here. Give a quick search, sorry I can't link from the phone.

The C3 choice is an amazing little player sonically, but the UI leaves a lot to be desired and has a few quirks that you get used to very quickly. It is my primary DAP and I use it daily. I am an album listener, since it has no random play functionality that is not a problem for me. You also have to run a little utility to sort your uSD card alphabetically, but again its no big deal. Check out the C3 Appreciation thread for all the low down on this sweet little unit.
