I recently picked up an Infinity PS-8 sub.
It has a level, crossover (50-150hz), phase switch, RCA + LFE, and speaker high level input.

Right off the bat I noticed an improvement in the quality of bass, and bass response when I was just testing it out at low volumes in the living room before moving it to my room. The bass was cleaner, and tighter than my Logitech Z-680 sub.
I'm only using the sub on my computer in addition to my AudioEngine 5's, with a Maverick Audio D1, for the bass.
I played with a car sub in my setup before, and I like it. It could play the low notes much louder and cleaner, but hacking a PSU to power an amp is too much work.

The problem:

After just straight wiring the Infinity PS-8 to my sound card, (I wired the Z-680 like this too), I noticed the sub was playing the high notes.
I could hear vocals coming from the sub. It's muffled vocals, but I can make out dialogue.

The crossover at the back of the PS-8 does nothing. It only really affects the bass, and playing a 80hz tone with the cross set at 50hz, I still hear bass. If I turn the level all the way down, I hear only vocals.
Turning the level up affects the volume of the bass.

I've tested the RCA line-level input, as well as the speaker high level input.
The sub still plays vocals through all inputs.

Does anyone have any idea?

I figure I need a dedicated crossover, and picked up some FMOD's.
I want to figure out why.
