hi guys... i'm a long time reader of this forum but never decided to register until now... so i hope i'm welcome here
wink.gif

i've been reading very useful info from you guys as an experts in cans..thanks alot guys
biggrin.gif

i have one thing in my mind... so many people bashing AKG K270S, i'm a working&recording musician, not a true audiophile
wink.gif
used to work with yamaha studio monitor (NS-10 and MSP-5) and several other monitors that i considered honest and flat... for me K270S is a superb and a ruler flat accurate cans and some working engginer also love it but audiphile or hi-fi people seem hate it... yes its kind of bass shy but it has a very accurate mids and high.. i'm not a bass head and i can hear the bass just fine (its lacks of the fun factor but seriously helpful in my working environment on recording project)... its surely need burn-in to sounds optimal and really need well driven source (i plug it to my mixer)... not starting a war here, it just show how people differ from each other he..he..

i also have ATH M40fs, get used to the sounds and could quite judge with it beside my 270... i use it for checking the overall mix, since its extended and i'm familiar with the bass region... to bad the mids and high aint my favorite... but i like this cans and one of my reference since i quite familiar with it...

i also have AKG K141M... its kind of dark sounding,a tiny bit to much mid lows... it sounds nice but itsn't really comfortable for me, may be my heads is to big but after several hours wearing it really clamping tight and kind of hurts... i never use K240M.. can any one inform me if they both kind of similar sounding or not?

here's a little bit surprised, this week i go to my regular music store and they let me hear the cheap AKG K44, to my surprised its sounds so good for its price (i got about $25 each so i bought 2! =)
i tried if burn in really exsist, so i burn in one with pink noise and my favorite songs for a couple of days and burn in really exist... without burn in it has a bit to harsh high and loose bass, after burn in the high is more open and smooth, the bass a bitmore tight... burn in does help with this can... its the most comfortable headphone i own! (besides my old HD490 that i used to love but to overbass for my taste and my lovely 270)... i'm not regret to buy 2, so i can put one in my studio for tracking since they're closed and very easyly driven and one for my listening fun=) very highly recomend it...=)
to bad its cable is only 2,5m instead of 3m, but for this price i'm not complaining =)... also its made in china (my 270&141 made in austria) but the building quality is good and very very very comfortable i can actually sleep with it in my head.

i've ordered sony MDR-7506 and V-6, it will receive it about next week... i hope i like it =)

oke guys.. thats abit about me... well, dont trust me... what do i know about cans =D , i use cans for reference and monitoring so some time i get aside the fun factor... i also dislike to much bass or boomy bass, i thing to much bass makes sounds unclear and muddy the mids and high... i prefer flat and accurate... but its also subjective oppinion he..he..

sorry for my english... english isn't my native langguage

God bless you all..bye..

gout,

Welcome to Head-Fi. I enjoyed reading your impressions and look forward to hearing your comments on other subjects as well. It is especially interesting to hear opinions from the production side of music. We talk about music and how it is recorded quite a bit and it will be good to have input from the the originators. Once again welcome.

Welcome to Head-Fi, gout. Your comments regarding the K270S are intriguing, and in direct opposition to my impressions of these headphones. I think you and I may be the only ones on the board to actually own these things. When I first got them last year, upon first hearing, my reaction was, "What a mess!" The sound was incoherent, muddy, shrill, and and disjointed. I burned them in for 24 hours, noticed a very slight improvement, but gave up on them. But since you mention that they need a good burn-in to sound their best, I just took them out of the box again and am burning them in for a few days. I'll give them another shot, and let you know what I think.
Thanks for sharing your valuable thoughts on the headphones you use in the production end. BTW, your English is fine.

joelongwood, i have the 270 for quite long and really trust in it, so i know my opinion is biased since i've been spending thousand of hours using it and very familiar with its sounds interpretation =) yes i've search your forum and read all your impression about the 270, but i appreciate all kinds of oppinion... i've read abunch of bad oppinion/review about it, including headroom that definately hate it... i wonder if they really actually study and listen to this can
biggrin.gif
... did i hate it the first time i hear/got it? you bet man! but the more i use it the more i appreciate it=)
yup, i can say for sure that 270 is really bass shy but since i can hear it just fine i dont have major problem it... some time in checking mixing-- if the bass sounds dominat or abvious in this can i definetaly sure the mix must be over bass! =) i like the 270 so much that i'm considering to get another one for back up-- but this one is still going strong and marvelous=)

in mixing and sound engginering world you guys must know the industry standard yamaha NS-10 and some other monitor... its very widely used that some people thought its a good monitor, some hi-fi people buy them for their home listening and surprised how bad they sounds and far from their taste-- its got harsh high, no bass and so on... so those people wondering how come this little speaker with white cons so widely used by many music engginer and studio... well, one secret they dont know is engginer listens to what these speakers interprate to the real world... those NS is bass shy abut some engginer manage to watch the cones movement and how the sounds will interprate to become a deep and pleasant mix... i use my 270 the same way =) but honesly some time i still use my ATH M40fs for double checking and make sure.

some of you guys buy studio cans for fun factor and isolation, so sometime get dissapointed about the sounds being so sterile, dont have much impact or lack of fun factor... well this studio cans (AKG studio series, ATH M40fs or HD280) sometime (not all) far from fun side but they're seriously honest, have clarity and plenty of detail.

btw, no i dont relay on cans for mixing.. i use my studio monitor for mixing and balancing levels, but i use cans for detail eq tweaking, checking pannings and annalising if there's some annoying detail i want to remove =) and also for some big and serious projects-- i sometime hired pro sound engginers to mix my music, so i got maximal result.. you know what, although the engginers love my studio monitors he also bring his own more than 20 years old marantz headphone and 1981 JVC compo to check the mix... he gives me good, pleasant and deep mix, i have the chance to listen to his cans.. i surely dont like the way its sounds but he really know this cans well that he refused to used others=) (and that old cans still going superb and strong!)

for me a good cans is very2 subjective, i know its annoying to heard studio cans with its abit bass shy (many of good studio cans outthere is kind of bass shy)... but if you spend time with it you'll appreciate those clear mids and highs without being over powered with bass...

do i like using studio cans for just everyday listening? nob! i just use those trusty cans for serious and analytical listening
tongue.gif
i know how aweful if i want to watch DVD with 270 ha..ha.. i prefer using K44 or HD490 so i definatly hear the impact.... every cans have its own purpose, use them as they're meant to be... for know i love these cheap K44 for fun and pleasant factor he.he.

oke... i think i've talk too much

Gout,

This is all about subjective opininons.
Your thoughts is just as valid as the next guy.

I have noticed all the sound studio i've visited, they do use monitor other than 'fones for mix. ( then adjust the hell out via SSM aka ****ty small monitor )

Nice to meet you. And, thanks for your impressions. I enjoy reading perspectives on gear from all angles, an engineer’s opinion is just as interesting as an audiophile’s.
