OK, i'm all kinds of immune to "those are too pricey\don't worth it\there're no difference with my ibuds\etc.".
But today i had conversation that caught me completely off guard. I talked to some guy who is "tech-geek". Always gets new stuff, gadgets. He also have k701, which he bought in some hi-fi store just because "they were most expensive and technically advanced". He browsed the web at the moment we talked and found announce about AT's new ATH-A1000X and A2000X. He said: "wow, a great replace for my out-of-date k701". I was like

I said what do you mean out-of-date? He responded - k701 came out in 2004 or whatever, those AT's are new, so they're must be much more technically advanced and better overall...
I was speechless....

What is your most ridiculous headphone-related conversation?

Well, most people who do not know about audio would think that, and as you have yourself said he is a "tech geek". He would be used to things getting better with time (think of the other stuff he has bought) and so he would apply the same logic here. In most "tech" things (computers, video games etc) 4 years is a long amount of time, and things most certainly do get better. So i can see his logic. Doesn't mean its not stupid though.

They can easily spend $50,000 on a car, but me spending $2-3,000 on a headphone makes stir. Hilarious.

I don't have to rely on face to face conversations for stupid stuff about headphones or anything. I just rely on my twisted imagination. When I saw the title of this threat the first thing that popped into my mind was an image of a salesman trying to sell me a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770's and saying "These headphones are the new viagra!" Amazingly enough, I bought 3 pair. I guess I have an active fantasy life. And it is a totally horrible one. Hi ho!
