Does anybody know anything about these pads?

They are definitely not bowls, flats, vwaps or comfies.

They are black and look somehow like the vwaps, the differences being:

1. the small diameter hole seems to be cut during fabrication, not afterwards (the cut is PERFECT, I mean even more perfect than the cuts made by vwap in the vwaps

);

2. they are still tronconic like the vwaps but the tronconic shape is reversed (the largest diameter is on the outside);

3. they have no radial cuts (as in the original flats or in the vwaps).

4. the large diameter hole has been obviously obtained by butchering the foam.

... and I think they are dyed black, because I washed them and the water got immediately black...

I certainly havent seen anything like that if its not a vwap or a modified comfy.

I don't think they can be anything else. We used to buy these in bulk for the library. Bright yellow for the 414s as I recall.

Where did you get them?

At one time, before Todd became a retailer for them, the original Grado flat pads were extremely rare and highly sought after. Head-Fi member Vwap developed a process of taking the yellow Sennheiser 414 pads, precisely cutting an opening in them and cutting the small slits around the opening, then dyeing them black. They were the closest thing to the Grado flat pads around.

And if I may add, extremely comfortable AND costing half the price of the flats. At the time they were available, that is.

Vwap pads

I'd probably have sold my Grados a long time ago if it weren't for the Vwaps.

(I haven't tried the flats but I hear that they are not very comfortable, if not as painful as the infamous bowls.)
