Hi all,

I have a Pioneer DV-656A dvd-audio player, and a Denon AVR-2802 receiver.

I've just been getting into dvd-audio.. I have 4 discs.

REM - Automatic for the People, and Neil Young - Harvest, which both play fine.

Tonight I purchased Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, and The Doors - LA Woman, and ran into some issues.

Beach Boys is a 2-sided disc. 1 side is for dvd-audio, the other side is for dvd-video. If i put in the dvd-audio side, i get no audio at all. If I switch to the dvd-video side, it plays fine.

LA Woman is a different story.. when I put the disc in it has a little advertisement for Elektra with sound that works. The stereo mix plays fine. The video that is on the disc plays fine, but when I play the surround mix I get no audio.

The dvd player has next-to-nothing as far as audio settings..

Do you guys have any ideas? I have it hooked up with a regular optical toslink cable. When I play Harvest it says "DVD-AUDIO" on the player.. so I don't know. I'm at a loss.

Any help would be appreciated!

You cannot output the full resolution DVD-A or SACD signal through a toslink or coaxial connection due to copy protection. You have to hook the player up with 6 rca interconnects to get the sound. Hope this helps.

I thought you could still play music with it hooked up via toslink, just not as good of quality?

My receiver's 6-channel input is taken by my SACD player

You're only getting the DVD-V music track or a 24 bit/48khz track I think. Not
24/96 or 24/192

If that's the case.. what is my best option for connecting SACD and DVD-A to a receiver that only has 1 set of 6-channel inputs?

These are the specs:
Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II & DTS ES Discrete 6.1 A/V Receiver • Dolby Pro Logic II decoding with Cinema and Music Modes • DTS Extended Surround Discrete 6.1 decoding • DTS Extended Surround Matrix 6.1 decoding • DTS Neo:6 Cinema & Music Surround decoding • Dolby Digital decoding, including Matrix 6.1 decoding • 24 bit DSP processor • 6 Channels equal power amplifier section • 90 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, <.05%THD) • 135 watts per channel (6 ohms, 1 kHz, <.7%THD) • Banana Plug Speaker Connections all channels • 7.1 Pre-amp outputs (LF/C/RF/SL/SR/SBL/SBR/Sub) • 24 bit, 96 kHz high resolution DACs on all eight channels • Real 24 bit, 96 kHz Digital Interface Receiver • Adjustable High and Low Pass Crossover(80,100,120Hz) • 2 sets component video inputs, compatible with wideband (480p, 720p, 1080i) response for progressive DVD, DTV • 5 sets composite and "S" video inputs • 5.1 external wide bandwidth (100 kHz) input for future multi-channel formats (such as DVD-Audio) • 5/6/7 Channel Stereo • Personal Memory Plus • 4 assignable digital inputs • Optical digital output • 9 analog inputs including built-in AM/FM tuner • Multi-Zone 1 stereo pre-amp level audio outputs • Glow-Key programmable/learning remote features TV, VCR, DVD codes from other manufacturers; Glow in the dark main function keys • Dimensions: 17.1"w x 6.7"h x 16.4"d

I think there are switchboxes you can use but they might degrade the signal. You might want to pick which one you listen to and enjoy more and use the "5.1 external wide bandwidth (100 kHz) input for future multi-channel formats (such as DVD-Audio) " for that one. Then use the digital and 2ch stereo input with the other one. I really enjoy SACD in 2 channel so thats how I use it. Try either one and see which one you like better.
