Well, I went to see this concert with Mrs. Elrod last night, and I've got to say that it was an enjoyable evening. I'm not the biggest Sting fan in the world - I think his music has largely become arty-farty beyond saving since leaving the Police - but the man puts on a pretty good show.
That said, Annie Lennox blew him off the stage IMHO....she was fantastic!!
Sting played a lot of his newer stuff, most of which I'm thinking a lot of the attendees didn't even know. He even did this during his encore (a single song, and a quiet one at that...lame!!), which is always a mistake IMHO. He worked in a few songs from his days with the Police, including Syncronicity II, which I heard him play prior to release back when I saw the Ghost in the Machine tour. I know it's been 20+ years, but he's slowed down quite a bit.
Not so Annie Lennox. That lady has got some pipes, and a great stage presence. I didn't expect much of anything from either (it was kind of a wife concert, if you follow), but I thought she was great!! Played a fair amount of her newer stuff, but mixed in with some older stuff as well...and just to keep it interesting, she played "I Need a Man", but not "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves". She also did a duet with Sting - "Together" - where she clearly outshined him. I will definately go see her again if she's touring on her own.
The concert was at the Palace of Auburn Hills, MI...a venue where Sting opened the building 15 years earlier. I would have hoped that he would have been really fired up, but I thought it a workmanlike performance. Still, a nice evening, and well worth attending.
