Hey,
what headphone would be a step up to the HD570, be in around $100-125 and be able to be driven by the EMU 0404 (not bought yet, would this give a significant improvement even to my HD570 which is currently being played through an Audigy2 card?)

I mostly listen to post-rock (alot of details, i guess).

Thanks!

If you're happy with the bass quantity of the 570, there aren't many phones out there that won't disappoint. HD650 (out of your range), DT-770 (maybe in your range). Possibly other bassy phones I haven't heard.

Perhaps get the 0404 and listen to it with the 570 for awhile and figure out what parts of the sound you want to change (and maybe save a bit more in the process).

I was acctuly thinking about the HD650, sure its out of my range as of now, but maybe it would be a better long term investment. Would the EMU give justice to them?

Thanks for the reply!

Well, an 0404 is better than the output of most soundcards, and my pair sound okay out of my 0404. You can always look into a dedicated amp later, but you probably won't be too terribly disappointed going to an 0404 usb and an hd650.

Well, the bass will be less boomy than the 570, you might need to get used to that

FWIW, I use a gilmore lite as an amp for my 650's though.

HD570 was one of the first headphones I acquired. Broke them and then bought a used set here. Around that same timeframe I bought an MS-1 and was amazed at how much I preferred it over the 570. Another headphone in that price range that I really enjoy is the Goldring DR150.

Umm... you could also try the 590's if you can get a set. They fit like the 570's, but are essentially 580/600's in terms of sound.

personally, I have the bass heavy 495's and really enjoy the 580's which are the most similar to my current fav mass production k701's - too poor now =

Personally, I listened to the HD650's and while I did like them, the bass was just mre than I care for.

What do they call and opposite of a basshead?

Seriously, take a look at the offerings of AKG and even audio technica.
