Stefan AudioArt has an Equinox cable for the HD590. I was wondering if this might be a viable mod for the AKG 501?

-Is it difficult to dismantle the 501 to access/change out the stock cable? What is involved in this procedure?

-What about possible differences in wire gauge? Might there be any compatibility issues?

Wow, I remember SOMEONE talking about doing something like this. . . a homebrew cable for the 501s. Supposedly, it just BREAKS open the phone, doing things that were not thought possible. The bass is suppossed to be immensly improved. I don't remember who did this though. .

I should have given him credit earlier.
I took the pic from a reply he did to Nezer's post.

I was looking at my 501's last night and I don't see an easy way of taking them apart without breaking them.

That looks like a DIY sliver cable to me...

I believe there is a retainer screw under the "K-501" label on the back of each earcup. So one needs to carefully peel the label up and unscrew the screw to open them up.
