howdy Stax users,
what're your opinions of the Stax headphone extension? does it degrade the sound quality in your opinion (I'm not speaking theoretically, I'd like to hear from those who've actually used the extension, if possible

) also, the SRE-15N or the SRE-signature?

I was looking at the extension..its kinda like the typical 'round' cable, vs the flat cables on the Stax earspeakers...and if say..the only difference between a SR-404 and SR-303 is that the SR-404's cable has wider spaced conductors, wouldn't using an extension cable that wasn't utilising 'widely-spaced conductors' like that in the SR-404's cable, be effectively negating any advantages of the 404 over the 303?

opinions/experiences?

Hi, ablaze

I ordered the Stax extension at the same time I did the Omega IIs and the 007t.

The configuration of my main system left me with no other option. I have used the Omegas with the stock cord alone several times (I had to stand right next to my system) and switched out the extension in order to do a primitive, but effective A-B correlation.

I can't hear a difference. The extension is just part of my rig, and integrates seamlessly.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this piece of gear.

I have an extension cable with my Stax. It does nothing to the sound.

I thought the extension cable for my 4040 system altered the
sound a little.
It seemed a might warmer with a tad less fine top end detail.
I also compared it with another Stax extension cable I have had
for some time [used with the pro phones set up of the past],again that seemed to sound different from the the newer one less warm with a a slightly harder top end.

Mind I was in the process of auditioning interconnects at the time
so I was in hyper critical listening mode[super delusion setting 9,hehe

].

These days I do most of my listening at a distance that does not require the extension , but when I do, nothing shouts : DEGRADED SOUND ALERT! So I guess they must be OK.

Plus they are a usefull length too

this is audiocubes price:
$49.00USD Stax SRE-15N Extension cable for Earspeakers
$89.00USD Stax SRE-Signature Extension cable for Earspeakers

And I can tell you that Koji will sell them cheaper then audiocubes, since I had asked Koji and I planned to get a Signature ExCable too. So far, I only know 2 places sell stax stuff in a REASONABLE price. If you know other place, PLEASE let me know....
