The power supply which came with my 2050II is kicking out 16V - rather than the 12V which the amp docs says is the correct rating - I've since swopped it to one giving the right voltage - but was wondering would running the amp with 16V have harmed it? I have been using it for about 2 weeks now.

Look very closely at the power brick. If it says input 100vac then
it is for japan and using it is a bad idea. All of the stax bricks are
unregulated and it is possible that with no load the voltage will be
high, so you really have to open up the amp and measure the voltage
at the power connector when the amp is on.

The 2050 will definitely smoke if you overvoltage the power input.

If the amp is still working I guess it wasn't harmed and it doesn't smell like something is burning?

Since it has lived through 2 weeks of "abuse" and still works fine, then it clearly looks like it has taken no serious damage. Stop using it and find a better suited one. Then hope you get no problems in the time to come.

amp ran fine - there are no markings on the psu except 'made in Japan', but the box indicated it was 230/240V.

I also checked the current and my multimeter said it was 4A -I double checked, it was definitely Four.

Anyway, I have a new regulated 12V@1200mA running the amp and it does seem to have tightened the bass a bit and reduced some harshness in the mids- I A/B'd a few times when everything was warm.
