Hi all. I've fortunately had some spare time these past few evenings for some extended listening sessions. I have been using my W11JPNs with the MF X-Can V3 amp (I have been listening to a lot of quieter music than usual, in that a jet-black background becomes a serious component of the music, and the ASL MG Head OTL Mk III has a slight background hiss).

Anyways, I digress…back to the topic at hand. When I sit down to listen - the first time each evening I put the cans on and plug them in - I experience what feels like a flow of electricity / static discharge in the right-hand side. I feel it between the ear and the can...either the earpad or driver…I cannot be sure. It only happens on the right, and only when I first put the cans on and plug them in (not again till the next evening).

What I suspect is something to do with grounding somewhere in the loop. The reason is that it is on the right side, which is the side to which the cable doesn't connect (unilateral cable on the JPNs, coming in on the left side). I thus suspect that there is a flow of electricity /discharge - perhaps coming from the amp upon plugging in the cans - through the cable into the cans, through the cans from left to right, and finally to my ear on the right.

If that is the case, any ideas what could be causing it; if it is dangerous; and how to possibly mitigate it? If not...any ideas what else it could be?

Thanks in advance and have a fantastic weekend!

One more thing I wanted to add which I feel may be important: the X-Can V3 is powered with one of those two-pronged AC cables for Europe (same voltage as we have here so we get the European models)....IIRC I believe that means it has no ground. The rest of the equipment I use and the AC cables we have here have 3-pin plugs. If that is the cause, how could I go about grounding the amp?

PS. I do not get any such discharge with the HD650s, which have cables coming in on both sides of the headphone.
