Just wondering if there are any amps I should consider that can give the RSA HR-2 a run for the money at it's $875 price point ? Going to be used for hard rock and metal mostly, so I need high dynamic drive ability, but without the harshness that most solid state brings along with high dynamic drive. From what i have heard, RSA solid state fits that bill .... Anything else ?

HeadAmp GS-1, AMB M^3 w/ Sigma 11, Audio-gd C-2 & ROC. Many amps are better than HR-2, at that price point.

Dynalo/hi, M3, and a budget Beta 22 are all significantly better-measuring alternatives. I've never heard the HR-2, but I have heard the Raptor and subjectively find the Beta to be in another league in transparency, bass quantity/quality, imaging, and speed.

Headamp makes the most popular versions of the Dynalo (Gilmore Lite) and Dynahi (GS-1), but they are made by DIY'ers too. headamp.com

The M^3 and b22 are generally done by DIY'ers, but there are one or two people that have set up shop and will answer questions and take orders. ybmaudio.com and rockhopperaudio.com are the popular builders for these amps.

I don't know much more about these amps, but I do know they are all highly regarded. The B22 is the "best" of the bunch, but they all are supposed to be great amps.

Thank you very much good man. Spoken with all due respect, I wonder if my question in the OP was answered by people who have actually heard the RSA HR-2, or if I am just getting opinions from people who use the amps they reccomend ?

I have a P-51 mustang, and since I'm a newbie at this, I'm having trouble imagining solid state sound getting THAT much better than this.

Lol seriously? I found the P-51 to be pretty poor with all due respect. I couldn't justify keeping it for the price I paid. Used it with my UM3X and found a little difference but wasn't worth it IMO.

The Gilmore Lite, GS-1 and GS-X are all Dynalos.

+1

But seriously, most if not all portables cannot match the prowess of decent desktop amps.

RSA HR-2 is a Mint level amp at most.

Anything better than the PIMETA IS better than the HR-2.

Beta22 is like eons away from the HR-2.

bear in mind that whatever I said is based on objective reasoning alone.
