Happy New Year Everyone!
 
Im look for a new pair of headphones. I will most likely be using them with my Cowon S9 so Im not overly concerned with driving them. I listen to a great hodgepodge of music but mostly gravitate towards acoustic rock and alternative. Will either of the choices be good or will I be impeded by something I overlooked? And if anyone could recommend other headphones, it would be great. I really cant spend more than 200 bucks

I can whole heartedly recommend the Shure SRH440. I too am a fellow S9 user and I find the Shures work brilliantly through the S9, they have just an amazing amount of clarity, with a nice suprisingly deep bass responce.  While they are bit on the bright side, I don't find them harsh at all.  Overall a tremendous value.  The SRH840s extend deeper in overall bass responce, are a bit warmer and have a bit of a laid back sound signature.

GREAT! A Cowon will be excellent for the HFI 580 and push it to what it can really do. I was not impressed by the Shures with the Cowon.

Audio-Technica ath-m50 or Shure srh750dj would probably be better choices

i agree with you. i love my srh750dj but the srh840 is also quite good as i have heard. it apparently has less bass though and its got a bigger soundstage.
