I'm thinking of getting a pair of Grados again. I've always loved the sound, but I've never been a huge fan of the bowl pads sound or comfort wise. Flat pads are better, but still not very comfortable and still a bit too bright. For me I've gotten perfect balance with HD414 or comfort pads.
So I've seen that Grados new SR80i and SR125i comes with comfies as stock instead of with bowls like they had earlier. So I'm wondering if these are voiced for comfies and if comfies is what I like maybe I shouldn't bother that much with higher end models.
I would appreciate any input here. Thanks!

I suspect that supplying phones with comfies is more to save production costs rather than voicing concerns. My 80i's sound much better with bowls, luckily i find them very comfortable. As for upgrades,my 325is's sound better than the 80i's even with comfies on..

wallace,
I wondered if they are voiced/made to work better with comfies. Maybe not a whole lot of people who knows except Grado themselves.
I've had SR225 and RS1 in the past and I don't think RS1 sounds a whole lot better, but rather different.

Who knows if they are voiced that way? Use whatever pads you like/sound better to your ears.

Me, I can't stand comfies, especially with my 325i goldies. They just don't sit correctly on my ears, bowls will naturally align the driver to be in the right place. Also, heavy aluminum earcups + comfies =/= comfortable.

I have small-ish ears... maybe that has something to do with liking bowls?

EDIT: the lighter-than-aluminum woodies (RS1i, RS2i, MS Pro)would have no problem with comfies or 414 pads, so if you'd like to upgrade I'd look there.
