I have a Portapro and noticed that a store in the area has a sealed new SR40. I use the Portapro out of my Ipod when I jog...any thoughts on how the SR40 would sound compared to it?

I'd use my SR80 for this, but they're too big and hot, so I wonder if the SR40 is a better compromise than the Koss.

Seconded! Even if they don't sound better than the PortaPros (which they should since they're based on the SR-60) they're also very rare and a Grado collectors item.

Yeah, it seems like the SR40s are the Unicorns of the Grado world.

I do have the portapro's and the SR-40's and sound wise they sound very different. Yes the Sr-40's have the same drivers as the Sr-60
s but they sound very different as well. I do suggest get the SR-40
s just because Grado doesn't make them anymore, but other than that there is really no reason to buy them. The Sr-40s are uncomfortable, have no bass whatsoever, have a really cheap build quality, and sound like the SR-60's when you cover up the mesh part (partially).

Wait a sec... so Grado is coming out with a new low cost headphone? Any details on this one? Sounds interesting...
