Hi. i truly decided that i want to get myself a pair of grados. after reading some reviews i decided that the sr225 would be great for me.
after i called to a certain audio shop the man offered me a new pair for half the price if the rs1 model. and that's because they sent a broken pair to grado and grado sent back a new one without the box!
anyway...i am in a hard dillema and i need an answer in the next hour or two.
sound wise...what would be the better for rock and metal. i heard some head fiers complaining about the rs1 sound, and i dont want to go for them just because they're more upscale than the sr225.
thx!

Go to the store and try both. Trust your ears.

What he said, but I'm 99.9% sure you'll pick the RS-1, regardless.

if we leave the price issue for a moment...i am trying to figure out what will mostly suit my needs. and if i will buy the sr225 i will pay less anyway. i dont want to go for the upscale model only because of the discount.
comparing sound..are they both share the same sound sig only that the rs1 is more refind or something? do the rs1 has more bass? i am not sure i want much bass because i am trying to reduce it some after the denons.

The SR225 is like 80% of the RS1. The difference isn't big, nor is it worth the usual $500 price difference, but it's there. The RS1 sounds more refined and accurate than the SR225, and if you can really get them at ~$350 they will be a steal. Having said that I will usually be skeptic of such low ball offers, it almost sounds too good to be true.

I replaced the SR225s with the RS1. Clearly one of my better audiophile moves. The 225s are nice, especially for rock. But the sound is harsh, almost rough sounding. As others pointed out the RS1 is more refined just a fun phone to have on hand.

This is an easy one. Get the RS-1.

I can respect you question, however I do believe that 99.9% of most people would go straight for the RS-1. They're not 3.5X more $$ for looks, but it also doesn't mean it's the sound your looking for. This is however one of those very rare cases that you will probably NEVER find a brand new set of RS-1's near that price again, ever, and Grado's hold their value VERY well. I like to go on Amazon.com and read peoples reviews sometimes. It gives you a little more diversity in the people that purchase them. Meaning not only Vets and "Audiophiles" give their opinion if you know what I mean, although all headphones to people can be somewhat suggestive. You also get the every day Joe giving a review that can sometimes make more sense to some. But if you are able to listen to both, I would do that for sure before making a decision.

Another option is buy the RS-1's and sell them on here or Ebay and make an extra $200 dollars. Then go buy the 225's for free basically. The last pair of RS-1's I saw on Ebay went for over $550 + shipping USD. Something to think about if you don't mind going through the trouble. This will give you extra money for an amp or anything else you may want, or just save the money. Either way, good luck.

yeah..i also feels something smelly, but this is a professional store and he promised me that this is a pure new set of rs-1 .
when i think of it that way...if it wasnt for the discount i would undoubtely go for the 225. so i may settle myself to that anyway, andi hope i won't get dissapointed. i just afraid that diferences in sound will be huge comparing to the denons and the hd-595 also. now...i DO want a change in sound signature(the grado one)but i DON'T want to go down in QUALITY thats all.
(which taking me back to the rs-1 offer again).

maybe i got used to always go for the "Best" and get the more upscale model possible, the st225's price scare me i guess! what do guys think?
