Hi,

I've found that the SR-71 case is a scratch magnet.. It is very easy to get hairline scratches on its surface.. and the black color only makes them more visible.

Is there a way to avoid scratches..?? Yes, I keep the amp in the original static-resistant plastic sleeve that it comes with.. Any suggestions??

Strange, it should be hard anodized and more resistant to scratches.

But either way, aluminum is a pretty soft metal. You could remove all the components, and spray a clear coat over it. Automotive acrylic laquer is the best.

You're not carrying it in your pocket, right?

or use it with a nylon case !

no finish is scratch proof and even unfinished metal scratches if it is abused or not protected.shooting a clear coat on will not change that and any warranty would be voided-plus the resale value would be down

Bah !! I like the sexy black color of the amp, and don't like to use a carrying case, if I can help it..

Even after babying it, I was shocked to observe that the amp had some hairline scratches on the top and some on the sides.. Nothing major, but still visible upon careful inspection. Maybe the amp came in with those scratches, and I just noticed them !!

The problem is that I like the looks of the 'Black Bird' as much as I like its sound !! Now where do I compromise??

I put mine in one of those small blue moleskin bags like silver-plate table accessories come in, like a ladies compact or a silver coaster or that kind of thing. You can find one at Bed Bath & Beyond or a local jewelry store. Then I drop it in a quart sized ziploc freezer bag with my ipod and cables, and drop the ziploc in my briefcase. The whole thing is no bigger than a paperback. I bet you have a cooler setup, but I don't have any scratches.
