Well, in a long list of things I can't do, I'll put at the bottom of that "fixing the buzzing sound in Grado headphones".

It has having the famous buzz causes by a wrinkle in the diaphram. ya, so I took them apart following the Grado Mod Guide...however in removing the driver assembly from inside, I snapped the transducer wire. So, I had to remove the diaphram, uncoil a wire, then run it back. Considering how shoddy it looks, and the fact that I used elmer's glue-all, I reattached the diaphram rather well, run the wire back to the terminals...didn't know which one it went on, so I tried one, then the other, neither worked, I think the left earpiece bit the dust.

Why couldn't I leave well enough alone? It sounded fine 90% of the time, and just a SLIGHT inbalance in sound thats almost inpercievable. Now the balance is quite obvious, given that one side does not work at all. This sucks. Guess I'll be using Senn HD495s from now on. cest la vie.

omg, I haven't used these things for ages. how aweful! bleh! I almost don't even want to listen. Everything is muddy and dead, nothing is precise and clear. The imaging sucks. Feels like I'm listening to headphones, not music.

but on the plus side, they are about 1/4 the weight.

this is a very traumatic experience. not that my headphones are gone, I'll end up spending more and buying better ones now. You know how much that is going to cost me?

heh. might as well tell them you used a butter knife, too. the repair tech can probably use a chuckle.

but seriously, i don't know how grado handles repair charges. some companies treat clients as captives and charge the moon, others use their advantage of scale and parts availablity to give their clients a deal. anyone here sent a set in for repair before?

i'm sure grado wouldn't find it worthwhile to have the throw-it-on-the-sidewalk-and-we'll-replace-it warranty of zippo and the old nikon, but which way do they lean?

If it's an out of warranty repair, they'll do it rapidly and professionally, and charge you for it. Write them and find out what to do.

FWIW a complete driver and cable replacement of the RS-1 cost $100 (both drivers)

I've sent my 'phones to them twice before. I just sent them there without pre-sheduling it, they didn't charge me, sent them back fixed very quickly. But I think its our of warrenty now, not that I'd know anyway.
