I have some grado's in the shopping cart over at todd's...that "email me the best price thing" just sold me...$25 off is enough to make me jump!

Anyways, I have read about tons of mods for the grados...everything from yellow fluffly senn pads to soaking the bowls in water.

I was curious, aside from enjoying them a bit before ripping them apart, what should I do first with my new toy? I'm coming from a pair of senn hd - 555's that are good for right before you go to sleep

The grados should be an eye opening experience!

err...haven't confirmed the order yet...I just got hit by the $180 thing..thoughts on if this will be a good purchase will be appreciated

I do love music, and nothing is better than an awesome listening experience. Part of my problem I think is that I have never experienced what is being described in these reviews...I mean, life changing guitar solo's is a hard thing to live up to

I don't really have much to add... except I just heard Grado's for the first time today. The SR-225 to be exact! I really liked them. I don't know what people have been going on about with "omg so bright they'll sear your intestines!" regarding Grado's but they didn't sound overly bright to me. Actually considerably LESS bright than my AT A700s.

Very open and natural sound-stage. Yeah, lacks bass impact but you still hear it all. I didn't find the stock pads uncomfortable, but then again I've got long hair that covers my ears.

Extra padding. Infact, that's my mod. Get long hair.

Make sure the 1/4" plug fits you, or else add the 1/4" to 1/8" Grado adapter to your order too!

Secondly, enjoy the ride! SR225's will last you a long long time, and will smile with every source upgrade.

I've got the nice quality 1/4 into 1/8th sennheiser adapter that came with my 555's, I figured I'd use that.

I forgot..I had a question about my source. Right now I have an soundblaster x-fi soundcard that kind of started all of this...I felt my current phones were limiting my source upgrade. I have a crappy logitech 2.1 setup that has a sound and tone in-line adjuster thing that the headphone jack is on. I have heard some people say that the volume adjusters could damage the source? Is that true?

I think I'm going to go ahead and make the purchase as soon as someone confirms that my 1/4 to 1/8 adapter that I have will work

I had the same impression of the Grados of it being not as bright as I thought they would be. I heard them as well and I got mine coming in next week and I can't wait. Have fun with your Grados.

the flats and comfies are both made by grado, or for grados right?

The tape mode, sock ear cups, and possibly the senn 414 reverse quarter pad mod will probably be the first things I try as they are quite cheap to do.

I have had my 225's for almost a year now and they were confortable right from the start. I did not care too much for the flats. They were a bit uncomfortable. People say the 225's lack bass and I think they are wrong. Unless you are coming from a headphone that had a lot of bass to begin with. Also, I too do not think they are bright. I did notice what people may be talking about when I got my hd580's. Compared to those they are brighter but not overly bright. I think my sr80's were brighter than my 225's. My 225's are a bit on the darkside actually.I sold my 580's because they were too boring in comparison to my 225's.My 225's get my foot tapping everytime.

I haven't modded my SR-225's, but I will say that you're going to love 'em and you're probably going to be shocked by the difference in sound between the 555s and the 225s (or at least I was

I had previously only experienced the Sennheiser sound sig, so hearing a Grado for the first time was something else.)
