Well, I have had my sr225's for 2 weeks, easily close to 100 hours on them by now...thought I loved them to death, and I just plugged my 555's back in. Songs that blew me away on the grados sound even better on the 555's.

I am really tempted to sell the grados now...I am at a loss.

I have all the pieces for a cmoy, going to build it tomorrow. If anything I'd think the senn's would wake up more than the 225's would through an amp, albeit a tiny cmoy :p

I am thinking if I sell the 225's that I might spring for some dt-880's or maybe a higher end sennheiser...or maybe even stick with my 555's =/

The 225's almost sound empty compared to the 555's... The grados definately have a richer high end, but the senns are so much more full in the mid and low end

I just plugged in my hd555's recently too, they sound pretty bad compared to my dt880s. I recommend you upgrade as long as you have an suitable amp.

yeah I'd imagine that the 555's would fail in comparison to the 880's because they really excel on the bass and mid range.

Bah I really struggled to make a decision on my 225's, now i have to try to figure out what I'm gonna do again D:

god I'm listening some more and it just doesn't seem like the grados have mid range at all...the 555's sound a bit muddy compared to the grados, but it has so much more behind it :/

For your likes, sounds like dt880s would be a good choice. They do all music well imo

Well I am considering selling the sr-225's now...I can't post in the for sale section, guessing I need 50 posts? I don't see anything that makes this against the rules to talk about it here :S

lol...nvm I just realized I can return them...sorry :p

I am quite new to the termonology, so its probably all lows that the senns have over the grados.

Its not that the grados don't have the sound quality, because its better on the 225's imo, but anything bellow mid range has no intensity. I think I am finding them too far from being neutral I suppose.

I tried taking the pads off and pressing the drivers to my ears, and the grados seemed to lose all their sound. I don't really see how flats could be different than that, but I am probably wrong :S

Try flats, or RS-1's with flats ;D . DT880's will be boring in the mids for your tastes, and while they will extend, they wont have the same bass energy.

Or amp your SR225's with a nicer source, they may come alive

Mids to uppermids is where Grado is greatest IMO. Senns do have better lower mids though, more rich and lush. Which do you like more is up to you. Grado users tend to fix the lower midrange with tube amps, so take that into consideration.

Glowing tubes, I love them

If you amp them correctly or reset your EQ better way, then SR225 are simply great, full and rich.

But I have some feelings that Sennheiser are what you found better for your taste.

I'm gonna build my cmoy today (first real electronics diy from scratch) but I doubt that it will be really bassy. The opamp I wanted was back ordered for 4 months so I had to go with a different one.

I don't really have the money to buy a tube amp atm, but damn that would be lovely...I love the clarity and force behind the mids and highs of the grados, but the lower mids and bass seem to be really important in most of my music.
