I have this minor problem where the joints on the pivots for the left side of my HD650's are getting squeaky. I hear this squeak every time I tilt my head as the earpiece re-adjusts in relation to the headband.

I never took them apart, so I assume the construction of that piece is either plastic or metal. Any ideas on how to get rid of the squeak? It could just be a lubricant issue. I would like to use something that's not damaging to whatever material they're made of. WD-40 or something a little less toxic?

It's the plastic of the armature binding as it moves. A little bit of vaseline or oil or anything to stop it binding will cure that problem. I used a drop of engine oil--why not?

I have a tube of silicone lubricant I bought from Radio Shack. Its viscosity resembles heavily sugared water. The stuff isn't petroleum based, so it won't damage plastic. And it doesn't evaporate as quickly as some of the other spray lubes. One small drop will spread and penetrate into tiny gaps very well. I had a similar problem with my Denon D7000s. Cleared it right up.
