I have not heard both, but since the Zen stone is based on a sigmatel chip and the zen v+ is not ( I own one) I believe the zen stone will sound different.

My Rio carbon's and 1st gen Ipod shuffle are both based on sigmatel chips and sound much better than the zen v+ ( more detailed , neutral, tight bass)

i hate to burst your bubble, but last i heard the zen v+ has a sigmatel chip, so i don't think you can base your predictions solely on the chip manufacturer.

Why do you limit yourself to these two models? V+ sounds awful, I wouldn't expect any Creatvie flash player being good sounding. Buy yourself an iRiver or iAudio.

the zen v+ is not neutral sounding, it has a warm bassy sound... Some music sounds great ,some music sounds terrible. The high-end is not very good.

I did not know the zenv+ had a sigmatel, missed it when I replaced the battery.
