I'm wondering whether or not this rig:
ERS Shielded X-Fi w/ LM4562 -> iBasso D2 > Headphones (ALO HFI 780)
will be completely owned by this one:
X-Fi -(digital out)> Zero DAC Amp > Headphones (ALO HFI 780)
This is assuming both have had their DIP Sockets rolled with better OpAmps (not SOIC type though... I'd rather not have to ask my friend to solder again). I realize that many probably haven't heard the D2 yet, so I'd assume a Go-Vibe Petite or maybe even the more expensive 2Move would be a good stand-in for this comparison. (D2 preferred, though)
I'm considering the Zero DAC if it offers a very good (maybe night and day?) performance increase over the iBasso D2.
My iBasso D2 hasn't come in yet (nor have my new phones -_-), but I'm worried that it won't offer any significant performance increase with an up'd X-Fi. iBasso has shipped it, but I guess I could always sell it new.
I'm also worried though, that a up'd X-Fi + iBasso D2 will offer almost as good SQ as the Zero DAC while also giving me portability. I'm willing to nix portability, though, if SQ increases by a good amount.
Oh yeah, do most laptops these days have optical/coax out?
