Im looking for some dark, techy, instrumental Hip-Hop.
I hear it all the time as background music to commercials but have never found exactly what im looking for.
There was a special on Showtime a couple of years back about the underground world of grafitti artists and the soundtrack was bananas.
I managed to find out who a couple of the artists were (RJD2, Prefuse 73 and DJ Shadow)-but I missed the others.
One of the artists was OMID? The album "Monolith" is suppossed to be excellent but very rare.
I own all the major Instrumental artists releases including all ofthe afore-mentioned.

Any one have any other recommendations?

This is a hard one. Maybe try Ringside? Take a listen to their song "Struggle" off their self-titled album.

If this is completely off base just ignore me.

I know...not many artists out there-or at least ones that I can find.
Can you describe Ringsides music to me?

Hmm...
Electronic, hip-hop, indie rock.
Dark, club, funky, groove, chillout music.

As is completely apparent by my total inability to describe their music, they seem to transcend many musical genres. Ok... so that's just my excuse for a bad description.

EDIT---
Ringside's "Struggle" was used a little while ago in a Mazda commercial in which a female passenger was dancing in a car as they rode around. Maybe you've seen this and will recognize the song; maybe not.

I appreciate the recommendations, but none thus far are anything close to what im looking for.
U.N.K.L.E is by no means hip-hop; more like an experimental mix of countless genres.
Dr. Octagon is straight up, lyrical hip-hop, albeit very good.
Handsome Boy-still not what im looking for.

As mentioned above, im looking for INSTRUMENTAL hip-hop, with a dark, techy flavor.

Again, I appreciate everyones input, but id love some instrumental recs.

When you say "instrumental" can you elaborate?
Techy?
No lyrics? Are you looking just for beats?

EDIT:
Oh Oh, In-STRU-MENTAL, ah yes, no lyrics OK hang on

Very interesting, although id charcterize these as more IDM and straight experimental (along the lines of Aphex Twin, Plastikman and Boards of Canada-lotsa blips and bleeps).
Im looking for dark hip-hop beats with absolutely zero vocals.
I dont mind it to have an "electronica" influence but it has to pre-dominantly sound like hip-hop (most importantly BPMS).
Thanx for the links-may have to try some of this stuff out regardless.

Has anyone heard any DJ Krush?

Ah yes DJ Krush

He's Japanese
He has some good songs but sometimes his stuff can move too slow, as in it really never unfolds into anything. He has alot of albums though, and I have only had 2.

Worth trying

One song I remember that is badass is Kemuri

His style might be more of what you are looking for. Not exactly Hip-Hop but some good beats.
