Have an old Marantz 2225 receiver that I picked up to power my Senn 580. Just wondering if there are any decent speakers that would fit nicely with them? should I mainly looking at older sets or is there a new set that I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

decent? what's your bugget? i know for about 300$ you can pick up a pair of polk audio RS15i (that might be the older model) which i have a pair of, they sound very nice for 300$ and are said to be the best speakers under 1000$ by sterophile.com

Too bad that's not my Marantz 2235 you have.

(Too many old receivers here.)

Higher impedance is easier on the amplifier. If the speakers presented a 2-ohm load that might be a problem; 8 ohms is fine.

I have Infinity Reference 2000.5's (or try to find any of the floorstanding RS series if you can) with a Marantz 1070 and the combo sounds SPECTACULAR. Very punchy bass and smooth midrange. If you ask me I would go with maybe something from JBL or Infinity for the slightly more neutral/foward sound, perfect match for the warm Marantz amps, evens everything out (from my experience).

Sorry I dont have any more input on speakers but Ive been happy with this setup so I resisted the upgrade bug. Ill shut up now and let the others jump in on the subject

I have some old Advents sitting around gathering dust. I replaced the woofer surrounds a few months ago and they sound pretty good. If youre willing to pick them up I would let them go for a song. I wouldve pm'd you but I dont see the option. Admin if you want to remove this because of rules go ahead.
