You can see my set up from my sig. In planning my nest upgrade I'm thinking my source is now what needs upgrading.

Would the Marantz SA8001 be a nice upgrade for my system???

Yes, it would. I have owned an SA8001 for about 5 months now, and it's a great piece, driving a CK²III and HD600's. After listening to a few other rigs at the recent Chicago meet, I have to say that I didn't find any more expensive units to be substantially better.

It handily beats my former MF CDPre24 on CD, and that was a $3000 CD and preamp combination unit when it debuted in 2002.....plus the SA8001 provides SACD capability.

My son has the Sony, but he's at school now so I can't A/B them. The Sony is no doubt a great value, but I'm pretty sure that you would find the SA8001 to be a cost-effective upgrade.

Thanks for your reply sejarzo! I've had my eye on the SA8001 for a few months now and am getting closer to pulling the trigger. Any source I get must have sacd capability and I've read good things about this player.

btw, where did you get yours?

I "stole" it on Audiogon.......three weeks old, a true 10/10, for $560. Bought it within minutes of the seller's post going up.
