I am interested in experimenting making small capacitors, and wonder where I can find the insulating oil in small quantity (less than 2 quarts)?

And can anybody recommand any knownly good oil brand?

use motor oil.

Honestly, I would use mineral oil. I don't see why you would want to make a paper capacitor anyway. Saran wrap is much better than paper and you don't need oil to keep it from rotting.

I have made small caps before with aluminum foil and saran wrap. Good luck ever getting two of them to match or even to be in a value you need. After a lot of trial and error I managed to make a few matching ones. Once you have got what you want dip it in plasta-dip. That is the stuff you buy at Home Depot for tool handles.

If your not useing paper, then why would you need oil? As far as what kind of mineral oil. For testing, I would go with the cheapest I could find.
