Is there any source of the 32 ohm version of the current DT-770 other than directly from Beyer?

Not any more. You need to go to Beyerdynamic "Manufacture" page. BTW - there never has been a 2006 of any dt770, 880, or 990 - such a year designation for these is soley a figment of someones' marketing imagination.
..........a better alternative would be to buy a pair of dt770/32ohm drivers and transplant them into 2003 shells..............or even better, get all the parts together and arrange for Larry (Headphile) to turn them into Darthbeyers.
