I'm currently running them out of a (legacy) Naim DAC-V1 and I quite like it, but I recall more detail when I demoed it with a iFi Micro iDSD Signature (the shop provided that so I'd have a sound more similar to the Naim - I didn't like the Utopias very much out of their original demo source, although that might have been because of Tidal issues).
I actually have an Arche on order - but the Utopias are so good that I'm considering bringing them to the office fairly often, I'm considering cancelling the order and buying a mobile source, or perhaps just having another setup in the office (especially since it seems that I will need to remove the cables every time I carry the headphones around in its case.. haha... )
For the mobile source: I'm going to demo it with a SP2000 and Shanling M8, and probably also the Hiby R8 - any other suggestions?
Any suggestions for a desktop source over than the arche - ideally something which doesn't require a PC/Mac? I toyed with using a Naim Atom with the built-in headphone amplifier for awhile, but that's not much of an improvement (if any) over the DAC-V1 and I think the DAC-V1 leaves stuff on the table. I really don't wanna buy two Arches or to carry it around... lol.
(Bonus questions:
Is Roon so great that I should definitely get that? I'm just using foobar currently on my home system.
Is Tidal much better through Roon?
Is removing the cables fairly regularly when carrying it around likely to be an issue?)
P.S.: I've just discovered that both the DAC-V1 and the Arche can use an iPhone as a source... so I might just have the Arche at home and the DAC-V1 in the office.
