heyy...im going to be doing some sound work for a band at live concerts in small venues. im looking for a pair of high quality headphones that i can use during the concert in the $140 price range. my friend reccomended two different pairs, the sennheiser 555s or the ultrasone HFI 550s. ive listened to the sennheisers and loved the sound, but dont know which design, opened, closed, or dj style would be best. any reccommendations wiould be appreciated

For live recording/re-enforcement projects, you definately want closed/DJ style phones. In terms of differneces between closed and DJ, there really garen't any for the most part; both have the back of the headphones closed to isolate outside sounds, however DJ headphones usually have a bit boomier bass (if you're into bass, they may be what you want), but also usually at the cost of clarity of sound.
Closed headphones are good for live situations because they allow you to hear what is going through the system or what you are recording without interference from outside sounds. The usually do not posses the soundstage that open headphones do, but that doesn't mean that they are bad.
In terms of recommendations, what you have listed sound good, and you may also want to try the Sennheiser HD 280, and the Koss PRO 4AAT. Hope this helps somewhat and if you need anything esle feel free to drop a private message. Take care and good listening
