Just got the E50 from a Head-Fi trader. Very good IEMs for the price. I did find them a bit bright, but just toned it down with a little EQ.

Hello Gary. I have the Soundmagic ES18 and love it. I would have also bought the E10, however I don't like having a straight plug sticking out of my player. I like using earphones that have a right angle plug. I don't understand why the E80 uses a 60 degree plug  instead of using a 90 degree one. The E80 looks very interesting, and at around $50 seems priced well. It seems like only the red color is available now. I want to get it in black.

I don't like using items that are red in color. Red stands out too much. Black tends to blend in to the surroundings. Ever wonder why black is by far the most popular color for shoes? In general the color red tends to increase stress, as it is also the color of blood.

I was considering the ES20, however many of the reviews I read for it claimed that its sound quality was lower than that of the ES18, and so is its build quality. In general I prefer IEMs that have larger drivers, as they seem to typically provide greater soundstage, greater detail, greater deep bass performance,and greater efficiency. I tended to notice this when comparing iems of the same brand. The ES20 doesn't even seem to be as widely available as the ES18. I am hoping Soundmagic will make some new models with 13.5 mm  or larger drivers.

Our experience with the ES20 is that it's very impressive indeed.  The ES20 is much more neutral and better controlled than the ES18.  The ES18 is a fun sounding earphone, but aimed at the mainstream with a big powerful bass.  The ES20 is a more grown up headphone.
 
The ES20 did have some quality problems early on, but for the last six months or so they revised the design so that it snaps together and does not only rely on glue.  The ES20's cable is also much higher quality than the ES18.
 
The E50 and E80 are a big step up from all of the above.  SoundMAGIC have developed their own drivers in-house and you'll get much more detail than an ES20 or E10.

How can one easily tell the difference between newer and older ES20 earphones? Is the box different?

The E80 is a monster of clarity, balance, detail, and fast bass. Transparent and revealing. Love it.

Just ordered me the E80. As a very happy user of the E10, I can't wait to see what Soundmagic have managed to achieve with their flagship IEM.

Wow, thats great to read.  I should be receiving them today, so will of course give my thoughts once I have had time to listen.
