I'm interested in the triple.fi sound, with great highs and defined mids and bass, without being too forward with the presentation. I'm just worried that the triple.fi wouldn't fit me well. The only in-ears I've ever used were ety er6i's and the Creative ones that came with my XPS, and they're both tiny. I feel like if I had anything bigger, they'd stick out too much or rape my ears with discomfort.

I dig highs and mids over bass, but wouldn't want them to be overly forward in the high/mid area. I've been thinking about Livewires, but I'm worried that I'd be one of the people that could never get the right fit (ala FMT), but I guess I'd be willing to try that. Please help me out! I'm willing to spend basically anything up to the cost of the triple.fi's.

x2. SE530 seems to fit your requirement the best. It is comfortable with a slightly laid back sound.

I'm just worried that the SE530's would have rolled off highs. Is that the case? Also, would I need an amp to effectively run the SE530s? My source is going to be my iPod, and I'm concerned about hiss.

Unless you are NOT looking for a very detail, highly analytical sound (Ety-like), I think SE530 will give you enough detail, just don't except to head the finest of detail. SE530 is highly sensitive, so no amp is needed. If you are worrying about hiss, you can use the included volume pod to decrease the sensitivity (and hiss).
